Project dollar store..

I was put in charge of decor for a bridal shower coming up shortly...

I wanted something big, fun, elegant and cheap for door decor..

So I searched Pinterest!!

I came across an amazing pic of what looked like a wreath!

It's exactly what it says it is. A coffee filter flower..

So I followed the easy peasy steps and now I have an amazing flower on my
Door until the bridal shower.

What you need..

Locate a dollar store!

Dollar tree in Smithfield was where I went.

Your list-

Hot glue gun

Hot glue sticks

Medium sized hula hoop, (large hula hoops are too large for most doors, FYI)

One package of 100+ coffee filters (no I do not drink coffee, purely for craft related projects)

One roll of Crate paper, color of your choice.

Small amount of wire

I wanted to make sure that the flower could endure for a few months, so I gave the hula hoop
Extra structure by putting a t, in the center of the hula hoop and securing the wire by twisting it around the hoop.

Next step was to pull apart the filters because they tend to stick together and hot glue dries entirely too fast also!!

I then laid one layer, one on top of the other underneath the hula hoop. Like so....

Next step is to do the same with the above layers but beginning with a secure glued area on both the inside and outside of the hoop. And continue to layer the filters spiraling in towards the center. I made sure to glue down the areas I did not want poking up.

Keep going ....

Getting there

With the last filter you want to make sure it is centered pretty well, especially for your OCD friends like myself! :)

There's your structure of the flower.. This is plain white on my front door.

So I took the crate paper, with one of the bride's wedding colors and made a rosette flower for the center.

ViolA!!!

I then secured a loop around the wired t and hula hoop so it was secure enough to hang from a hook or nail.

This is the back of the flower..

This is on my front door..

This flower is about two feet in diameter, so pretty large.

I decided I wanted a smaller one inside the house. With my extra filters and crate paper I was ready to go. Problem, I didn't have a small hula hoop.

I decided I didn't need one as long as my hot glue dried into a pretty good circle structure. For inside the house there isn't powerful gushes of wind so I was ready.

I used the same steps without the hoop just glueing the filters very well.

This flower is about one foot in diameter. I love it!!

Total cost for these flowers are about three dollars, I still have extra filters and crate paper for other projects.

I already had the glue gun and a large sack of glue sticks from previous projects!!

Isn't crafting FUN?!

I love Pinterest for inspiration, tutorials, ideas, and more. It's been a nice outlet away from three kidlim's. Sometimes they get to help! (Not on dangerous projects with hot glue, hammers, nails, etc.)

Good luck crafting and if you do some flowers share your pics with me! I would love to see them!

Much love!!
